Watch for him to go into his Hold stance, as he’ll pretend to sheath his weapon but can lunge at you with great speed and reach - but will be open after his swipe. Don’t mistake his rags for weakness, as the katana he wields can deal major damage and cause bleeding. If you’re raring for a real fight, try taking this Master Swordsman on. If you take the left path behind the Firelink Shrine entrance, you can double back to where you dropped down, where two Hollow wait up some stairs by a split tree holding a corpse with an East-West Shield - make sure you kill them before trying to retrieve it.įurther up on the left - beware: a very angry and almost naked man waits with a powerful weapon. On the left, you can drop down to another path guarded by a Bone Hound, where a corpse by the wall holds an Ember as well (Sometimes you can find Hawkwood moping out here instead of the Bone Hound). There’s a corpse on the right over the entrance to the shrine that holds an Ember. Hop over the line of coffins to a landing below to find a corpse holding a Homeward Bone, with a path leading back down to the Firelink Shrine’s entrance. Be sure to check back periodically - especially if invaded by players or NPCs, and you may just find a Seed of a Giant Tree. If you start heading downwards, you can inspect an odd looking tree to get an interesting message. You can still get the Soul of a Deserted Corpse to the left of the gate. On the left is the path to the Bell Tower, locked by the Tower Key the handmaid has to sell for 20,000 souls. Head up the stairs to the left when facing the main entrance to find an alternate exit above. If you'd like to explore outside to find more items, there's a few things left to find. The rest of the Firelink Shrine is empty for the moment, so if you want to forge ahead, plant the Coiled Sword in the center of the room to create a new bonfire so you can warp to the next area - The High Wall of Lothric. Talk to him a bit to hear him explain his services, and he’ll give you the Hurrah! Emote. The other is Andre the Blacksmith, who can assist you in various ways: reinforcing your weapons and flasks with Materials like titanite and Estus Shards, infusing weapons with gems, repairing broken equipment, and changing your ratio of Estus to Ashen Estus flasks. Underneath the main entrance you’ll find a corridor leading to two other people, a Shrine Handmaid who buys and sells an assortment of useful Items (Like the Torch - get one!). He won’t have too much to say yet, but he’ll help out where he can later. Go talk to the corpse of a man on the throne to the left of the large center one to find his name is Ludleth of Courland, one of the Lords of Cinder who did not leave. The Fire Keeper will tell you that the Lords of Cinder got up and left their thrones, and it’s your job to beat them up - but it seems one of the thrones above is already occupied! There’s no real wrong way to level, but it helps to play to your strengths and keep an overall build in mind. You’ll get souls for killing enemies and bosses alike, or by using the soul items you can collect off corpses. In the center you’ll find an unlit bonfire by the Fire Keeper, who will be your go-to gal for spending those hard-earned souls you collected to level up your character. Talk to him and let him mope and you’ll get the Collapse Emote. On the right you’ll find a token crestfallen knight named Hawkwood the Deserter. It’s not much, and it’s pretty much a tomb, but it gets the job done.
